The purpose of this test is to determine the effects of repeated matings and unmatings on the optical and mechanical characteristics of fiber optic connectors and of other interconnecting devices. The number mating/unmating cycles should be selected to simulate the expected life of the connectors under test. Typical indications of damage resulting from this test may be: Broken or excessively worn parts. Inability to mate or unmate properly. Damage or wear to seals. Breakage, chipping or scratching of the interface. Optical degradation.
