This revision of FOTP-37 significantly expands the scope of the original issue by increasing the number of test procedure options. Four test procedures are included in this method: a. Procedure I: A procedure to test cable samples for physical damage and optical loss increase using a single-end configuration. b. Procedure ll: A procedure to test cable samples for physical damage and optical loss increase using a double-end configuration. c. Procedure Ill: A procedure to test cable samples for physical damage and fiber breakage. (Note: This procedure is very similar to the single procedure of the original issue of FOTP-37. See 1.4 for funher information.) d. Procedure IV: A procedure to test cable samples only for physical damage. in accordance with UL 444. Appropriate parameters to be used are listed in 1.3.2. and in Sections 3 and 5. Note that UL 444 testing would. normally. only be required for a Composite fiber optic cable; that is, one containing metallic conductors in addition to fiber optic components. Using one of these Procedures, all types of fiber optic cables may be tested for bending performance at various temperature extremes.
