The Wideband Data System and Standard Definition provides, in a general way, a definition and description of the wideband data system's services, architecture, interfaces, and system elements. Detailed technical information is contained in the rest of the documents that comprise the wideband data standards suite. The current scope of these documents is described in Section 6 'Wideband Data Standards Suite'. A wideband public safety digital radio system supports a standardized subset of data communications services. This document provides an overview of the standardized set of data communication services such that, where these data services are enabled, data connectivity operates in accordance with the following goals: -- Through any compliant wideband 700 MHz radio -- Across any wideband compliant 700 MHz digital radio system --Independent of the particular equipment manufacturer --Adherence to the Wideband Air Interface This standard enables interoperability in a wideband radio system using high-speed packet data over wideband data channels in the 700 MHz public safety band plan. This wideband data document suite is in response to the National Coordination Committee's (NCC) request that TIA provide a data interoperability standard for the 700 MHz wideband data spectrum. The NCC provided a user needs document extracted from the Project 34 Statement of Requirements (SOR) describing needed advanced Public Safety data services. Project 25 recognized the need for advanced high rate data services and created Project 34 in that pursuit. This standard suite is guided by those documented needs provided to TIA by the NCC. The general expectations, interoperability of advanced services, in the wideband data system and the organization of the standards documentation suite are also presented. The standard is to meet the common requirements as given to TR-8.5. These requirements are referenced and highlighted in Section 3 'Wideband Data System Requirements'. The set of standard packet data services has been defined in Section 4, 'Description of Packet Data Services'. The goal is to reuse as much Internet Technology as possible in order to facilitate the convergence of wireline and wireless data networks. This document also presents the wideband data system terminology and technical reference models for each of the three modes of requested operation. These are presented in Section 4, 'System Configurations and Reference Models'.
