Introduction Intent The intent of this test is to determine the effects of vibration within the sinusoidal and random vibration environments that may be encountered during the life of the fiber optic component. The procedure is applicable to all types of fiber, cable or cable assemblies, and fiber optic devices including connectors, splices, passive branching devices (couplers), etc. Failure Modes Typical indications of damage resulting from this test include, but are not limited to: a) Loss of optical continuity, and or degradation of optical transmission either during or at the end of the test b) Breakage or damage of fiber and/or other components c) For cables, damage to outer sheath such as cracks, splits, and kinks d) For connecting devices, inability to mate or unmate, broken parts or accessories, damage to seals
