EIA-933-A:2011

This document applies to the development of plans for the integration and management of COTS assemblies in electronic systems used in the commercial, military and space markets. COTS assemblies include items such as VPX circuit cards/modules (single board computers, etc.), servers, printers, laptop computers, printed wiring assemblies, disk drives, etc. NOTE 1: Best practices for managing the electronic components within the electronic assemblies are described in EIA-STD-4899 and IEC TS 62239, which describe the Electronic Component Management Program (ECMP). In cases where the components can be identified and managed at the component level, ECMP may be considered as an option to manage the components. This document (EIA-933) should be used to manage the assemblies. NOTE 2: The distinction between an electronic component and an electronic assembly is provided by the definitions in Clause 5.2. This distinction between an electronic component and an electronic assembly is not always recognized in industry: for example, filters, contactors, power supply modules, relays, magnetic assemblies, etc., may be considered as either components or assemblies. In each application it is a recommended practice for the user of this document to clarify this distinction. This publication is not intended to preclude or discourage other approaches that similarly represent good engineering practice, or that may be acceptable to, or have been accepted by, appropriate bodies. Parties who wish to bring other approaches to the attention of the formulating committee to be considered for inclusion in future drafts of this publication are encouraged to do so. It is the intention of the formulating committee to revise and update this publication from time to time as may be occasioned by changes in technology, industry practice, or government regulations, or for other appropriate reasons.
