UL 1091B OUTLINE

Description / Abstract: These requirements cover System Control Ball Valves intended for use in piping systems supplying water for fire protection service.

Ball valves covered by this outline are intended to shut off water supplies to systems and are not intended for use in trim and drain applications. Trim and drain valves are covered under the Outline of Investigation for Shutoff Valves for Trim and Drain Purposes, UL 258.

The valves covered by these requirements are intended for installation and use in accordance with the following Standards for:

a) Low-, Medium-, and High-Expansion Foam, NFPA 11;

b) Installation of Sprinkler Systems, NFPA 13;

c) Installation of Sprinkler Systems in One- and Two-Family Dwellings, and Manufactured Homes, NFPA 13D;

d) Installation of Sprinkler Systems in Low-Rise Residential Occupancies, NFPA 13R;

e) Installation of Standpipe and Hose Systems, NFPA 14

f) Water Spray Fixed Systems for Fire Protection, NFPA 15;

g) Foam-Water Sprinkler and Foam-Water Spray Systems, NFPA 16;

h) Installation of Stationary Pumps for Fire Protection, NFPA 20, and;

i) Water Tanks for Private Fire Protection, NFPA 22.
