Description / Abstract: This Outline applies to lighting distribution equipment and lighting dimming and switching equipment nominally rated 600 V or less intended for use in theaters, motion picture and television studios, performance stages, areas of assembly occupancies and similar locations in accordance with Articles 518, 520, 525 and 530 of the National Electrical Code (NEC), ANSI/NFPA 70. Equipment within the scope of this Outline includes:

a) Theater switchboards with or without dimming modules;

b) Dimmer modules for use within theater switchboards; and

c) Enclosed dimmers for direct connection to the supply and lighting circuits. d) Enclosed wireway dimmers mounted on rigging (a network of lines and chains used for support and manipulation of scenery and equipment) or to the building structure above or adjacent to the luminaires it supplies.

These requirements do not cover portable power distribution equipment addressed by the Standard for Portable Power Distribution Equipment, UL 1640.

These requirements do not cover units intended to provide only the low-voltage control signals to operate theater luminaire switching and dimming equipment.

These requirements do not cover luminaire dimming or switching equipment intended for residential or commercial (building architectural) installation and use addressed by the Standard for Industrial Control Equipment, UL 508.
