Description / Abstract:
These requirements cover rubber-gasketed fittings and metallic pipe intended for use as extinguishing agent distribution piping of pre-engineered fire extinguishing system units for protection of commercial cooking equipment. For installation requirements, see the following documents: the Standard for Dry Chemical Extinguishing Systems, NFPA 17, or the Standard for Wet Chemical Extinguishing Systems, NFPA 17A and the manufacturer’s instruction manual.
The fittings are of the configuration type (e.g., tees, elbows, couplings, and transition fittings) with integral rubber gaskets or seals.
The joints formed with the use of fittings covered by this Outline of Investigation prevent separation under pressure.
Pre-engineered fire extinguishing system units, extinguishing agents, or both are required to comply also with the requirements for construction, performance, and fire testing as applicable to specific types, designs, sizes, and arrangements. All such additional requirements which apply are not within the scope of these requirements; but are contained in UL 1254, (Construction and Performance), and UL 300, (Fire Testing).
