Description / Abstract: This standard applies to: (1) Stationary battery energy storage system (BESS) and mobile BESS. (2) Carrier of BESS, mainly includes but not limited to lead acid battery, lithium-ion battery, flow battery and sodium sulfur battery. (3) BESS used in electric power system (EPS)

This standard mainly provides alternatives for connection (including DR interconnection), design, operation and maintenance of stationary or mobile BESS used in EPS1. It gives introduction, overview and engineering issues related to the BESS

This standard involves BESSs and applications meeting the requirements of IEEE Std. 1547TM -2003 on DR interconnection. IEEE 2030 SGIRM (IEEE Std. 2030-2011), IEEE Std. 1547TM -2003, IEEE Std. 2030- 2011 and other IEEE standards related to DR or battery are dispensable for application of this standard

Purpose

This standard is to provide guidance for the designer, operator and supplier of BESS in terms of engineering requirements, implementation methods, key technical indices as well as operation and maintenance of the BESS. In addition, this standard also involves the information and communication technologies related to the application of BESS integrated with EPS, and will promote the standardization and application of BESSs

1Definitions of EPS, area EPS and local EPS in this standard follow that in IEEE Std. 1547TM -2003, IEEE Std. 1547.4TM-2011 and IEEE Std. P2030.2TM -2015
