Description / Abstract:
This standard specifies minimum requirements for interior
lathing and furring. The use of equivalents or better is
permissible.
Where a specific degree of fire resistance is required for
plastered assemblies and constructions, applicable building code
regulations shall be followed. Details of construction to achieve
required fire resistance may be obtained from official reports of
fire tests conducted at recognized fire testing laboratories in
accordance with USA Standard Methods of Fire Tests of Building
Construction and Materials, A2.1-1956 (ASTM E 119 -
55).1
To secure desirable results, this standard should be coordinated
with USA Standard Specifications for Gypsum Plastering, A42.1-1964,
and with Chapter 11 of USA Standard Specifications for Portland
Cement Plastering, A42.3-1946.
General information regarding matters of a contractural nature
concerning lathing and furring will be found in Appendix A.
Additional technical information rclatcd to lathing and furring
materials is provided in Appendix B. Erection data for door frames
installed in lath and plaster hollow partitions using prefabricated
steel stud or channel studs is provided in Appendix C. I.S When the
following USA Standards referred to in this document are superseded
by a revision approved by the United States of America Standards
Institute, Inc., the revision shall apply:
USA Standard Methods of Fire Tests of Building Construction and
Materials, A2.1-1956,
USA Standard Specifications for Portland Cement Plastering,
A42.3-1946, and
